September 2 – September 30, 2019
Hosted in partnership with Ministry of Culture Colombia
In my work, I explore and examine how images that have left their site of cultural origin undergo processes of translation, reinterpretation, and appropriation. With focus on pirated or inauthentic objects I find for sale, and through photography, drawing, and video, I question the ethical and aesthetic hegemonic values that the market has instilled in the reproduction. In 2017, I co-founded the collective Villamil & Villamil with my brother Felipe, with whom I share a studio in an artist-run space called MIAMI located in Bogotá, Colombia.
